Our Bridgewater Trip 2025

The Anfield Trip: On arrival we were given our audio guides then taken up to level 6 to the top of the main stand. After a short film we went out onto a gantry which gave us a fantastic view of the whole stadium. We were then free to continue at our own pace. The tour was well signed with lots of information boards and helpful staff at all the key points. We were able to see the players changing rooms, the media suite used for post match interviews and the players dining room. The tour of the stadium concluded with a walk past the wall of champions through the players tunnel, passing under the famous this is Anfield sign, and onto the pitch. Most of the group took the chance to sit in the dugout, occupied on match days by the manager and his backroom staff. The trip finished with a tour around the LFC museum, which had displays dedicated to former players, and of course the famous trophy display. Antony Jenkins

Our China Town Visit; Twenty-four members gathered for “A Potted History of Chinatown” with our guide Billy Hui on Friday the 11th October. We began the tour at the Sailors Home Gates…many Chinese immigrants first arrived in Liverpool in the early 1860’s, as a result of Alfred Holt & Company employing large numbers of Chinese seamen to establish Blue Funnel Line.
Billy gave an interesting, informative talk on the history and culture of Chinese people throughout the tour. We finished at the Chinese arch after which we sat down to enjoy lunch at Man Tsuen Ho’s restaurant. Lin Starkey
We have recently been contacted by Wirral u3a to see if we could arrange joint trips in the hope of filling places on coaches etc and thus reducing the cost. We met with two Wirral members to discuss how we should proceed.
Please sign the forms on the Social Committee table if you would like to go on any upcoming trips.

Our Williamson Tunnels Visit, 27th Sept. The Williamson tunnels are a series of excavations in Edge Hill, Liverpool, brought about by Joseph Williamson (1810-1840) for what may have been many reasons, as we heard on our tour. Many men were employed to bring the excavations to fulfilment and the work continues now, with volunteers continuing their development for interest and speculation! We listened to stories of those long-ago days and how Williamson treated his workforce. Our guide was knowledgeable and entertaining, an interesting trip. Angela HH
